How my production fits the conventions

Front cover: My front cover fits the conventions of pop genre magazines as it includes the following features; a masthead in the primary optical area, which uses the dominant colour pink to reach out to the target audience. I've also included the conventional colours that relate the pop genre, being pink, purple , as they connote dominance and sophistication , and then I included yellow so the important information within the piece can stand out above the rest. I've also included a conventional image which includes a female artist, wearing bright clothing, as well as pulling facial expressions that link to the genre and the article, being excited and happy because she is back into her career, as well as the conventional positive image of the magazine. I've included three other images which are all conventional, as they are all situated in the left third of the page, which include three cover lines with conventional images - as they link to the cover lines and the figures are happy and smiling - creating a positive image again. I also included a "plus this and more" to attract the audience into reading the magazine as the images look appeal and use figures around the same age as them. The layout is conventional as it follows the route of the eye, as everything is large and made to stand out, therefore making it eye catching, and also it includes a cluttered and full layout, which is conventional of the genre. The use of pull quotes and cover lines are also conventional to the genre and to magazines in general, as well as the language used such as "" and "" which are brief and informal, but appeal to the audience because they're short and snappy. It also featured other items such as a barcode, price and issue number, which a conventional to magazines.

Contents page: My contents page is conventional to the genre as it uses a consistent house style, which is typical as it allows the audience to make a comparison between the pages in the magazine; which is what mine achieves. I used the colours pink to use as the dominant colour of the magazine and to appeal to my target audience of girls, the colour purple to yet again to appeal to my target audience of girls but also to balance out the colours on the page, I also used the colour yellow to use the idea of importance which would be expected by the audiences. I did use the colour white on my body text in means on making it stand out above the colours it was situated on - making it look appealing and eye catching. It's also conventional because of the fonts used, in which the majority are serif to appeal to the target audience, apart from the eye catching heading which is in the same font as the masthead to keep consistent recognisability. The use of the 5 categories including the editors letter are conventional as it makes it clear to the audience that the magazine is all about them - the kind of stories which I have included within my contents page would be expected and suited my target audience as they like to see stories based around their interests such as clothing and make up. I have also used the editors letter to make the magazine more personal to the reader as it would make them feel as they are connecting with the producers of the magazine. My contents page also includes the conventional annotated front cover, this is to show the audience where to find specific cover lines and stories within the magazine, this is conventional as it would portray a good image of the magazine; they would come across friendly and helpful.

Double page spread: My double page spread is conventional as it carries the house style of the magazine, by using the same style fonts and colours, which are conventional of the genre. The main image is conventional as it's a mid shot of the artist; it's conventional because it includes a conventional setting of a white background, it also includes conventional mise-en-scene such as the jewellery and strappy top which is typically associated with girls and would help target the audience. The image is also positioned on the right of the double page spread which is typical as the interview comes before the image - but is the first thing you originally look towards. The font is conventional because it's all serif which appeals to the young audience, and the use of the heading, stand first and kicker draws attention to the article, making it more interesting for the audience as it encourages them to read on. My article is conventional to the pop genre as it is an typical interview giving questions and answers; this type of article would appeal to the audience as this is what they typically expect from this type of genre and is what the audience like to read as it is the artists natural reaction to the questions; they get to know a bit more about the artist than they originally did before. The language used is conventional as it includes slang which would engage the target audience as it is their daily dialect such as "OMG".
